Dr. Roger D. Whitley
Dr. Roger D. Whitley is Distinguished Engineer, Standard Products Technology at Air Products. Roger earned his Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering from N. C. State University in 1986 and his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University in 1990. After a post-doctoral position with Prof. Linda Wang at Purdue, he joined Air Products in 1991. Roger is active in AIChE, having served as the Adsorption and Ion Exchange Area Chair, a Director of the Separations Division and 2018 Chair of the Separations Division. He has dozens of publications and presentations and is an inventor on 29 U. S. Patents.
Roger has been responsible for many aspects of technology at Air Products, including: adsorbent scale-up and manufacturing, process development for various adsorption-based separations, fluid dynamics and vessel internals design, lab and pilot equipment design, development of external relationships with vendors and universities, and overall PSA/VSA system design. His current interests are mentoring new researchers, working with vendors to scale up new adsorbents, and keeping hands-on with pilot units to help launch new product lines.
